Semaglutide is an antidiabetic medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and an anti-obesity medication used for long-term weight management
OZEMPIC is a glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Limitations of Use:
Not recommended as first-line therapy for patients inadequately controlled on diet and exercise .
Has not been studied in patients with a history of pancreatitis. Consider another antidiabetic therapy.
Not indicated for use in type 1 diabetes mellitus or treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
Semaglutide, sold under the brand names Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus, is an antidiabetic medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and an anti-obesity medication used for long-term weight management. Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist. In 2020, semaglutide was the 129th most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than 4 million prescriptions.
Possible side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, indigestion/heartburn, dizziness, abdominal distension, belching, hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) in patients with type 2 diabetes, flatulence, gastroenteritis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
